The use of PBL at Master's Programmes - Seminar on 22 November 2019
THE USE OF PBL AT MASTER'S PROGRAMMES (PART TIME PROGRAMMES/CONTINUING EDUCATION)
At Aalborg University PBL is used as the general, pedagogical formula for all the educational programmes, no matter the level or type in question. Although it is common knowledge, that the Master’s Programmes hold some important and interesting differences compared to other programmes, when it comes to the students' prerequisites, pre-conditions and even their motivation to participate in the studies.
At this seminar we want to focus on some of these differences, with a special interest regarding the consequences they should have for the design of the pedagogical strategies used in the master educations.

Exploring intercultural competences in relation to PBL - seminar on 5 April 2016
Tuesday 5 April 2016
Aalborg University has an increasing intake of students with different cultural backgrounds e.g. education, socio economic, ethnicity, etc.. The challenge is to cope with this in a way so as to take advantage of the synergy of this diversity and use the PBL environment to create a platform for development of intercultural competences. Throughout the University initiatives have been taken to train students entering the university on the AAU-PBL learning environment. At this seminar, we will share different experiences from the perspective of teachers, supervisors, researchers and students on intercultural competencies. Join us this afternoon for a debate about intercultural competencies in relation to PBL.

Ensuring Progression in Student Competencies with PBL - seminar on 26 January 2016
Invitation to seminar
Tuesday 26 January 2016, 13.00-16.00 at Kroghstræde 3, room 2.132
Increasing focus is placed on students’ development of competencies other than specific subject knowledge relating to collaboration, learning, communication and management of knowledge to name a few. These competencies are seen as closely tied to PBL – working with problems and in groups. However, how do we ensure the continuous development of these competencies through an entire education? What could this kind of progression look like and how do we make this progression visible in our educations?
This seminar marks the conclusion of work the PBL Academy working group on PBL and progression. At the seminar the working group will present its thoughts relating to three questions:
- How can we understand the terms and interrelations of progression and PBL?
- How may we envision progression and PBL in our educations?
- Which challenges emerge when considering progression and PBL?
The seminar will invite for debate across educational and organisational boundaries and is open to all interested AAU employees.

Flexible learning environments - seminar on 11 March 2015
University teachers today have a wide range of new opportunities in terms of technology and new teaching methods being developed both in relation to PBL teaching and general teaching. At the same time, AAU has an increased intake of students but also less psychical space to live out our traditional PBL model. At the seminar arranged by the PBL Academy we showed and discussed concrete examples from all four faculties as to how this challenge can be met and how we in practice can create new and more flexible learning environments to increase the learning for students throughout the university.
Programme for the day:
13:00 Welcome
13:10 Teaching Parametric Urban Design in a Blended Learning Format: Entering the Pocket University w/ Nicolai Steinø, Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology (AAL)
13:35 Experience with flipped classrooms w/ Janne Bang, Department of Communication and Psychology (AAL)
14:00 Coffee, tea, cake, and fruit
